Baby-Toddler–The latest addition to the “Little Bible Stories” series opens with a recounting of the renowned battle in the Valley of Elah. The battle was between the Israelites, who believed the word of God, and the Philistines, who defied His words. Central to this conflict is Goliath, a formidable giant who challenges the Israelites to a duel. Remarkably, it is the unassuming figure of David, a young and small man, who bravely steps forward to confront him. With only a stone and a stick, David emerges triumphant in an unlikely victory over the giant. In this Bible retelling, a serious and violent story is illustrated with bright colors and peacefulness, downplaying the seriousness of war. All of the characters are drawn with tan or brown skin. The text is quite wordy for board books, which are typically short with large text.
VERDICT For collections where Biblical stories do well.
