K-Gr 2–This fifth book in a series about the universe educates children on components of the solar system. The book begins with a glossary of key terms, which are later highlighted in bold throughout the text. Watercolor illustrations vividly bring the solar system to life as Bauer introduces each planet in order from the sun. From Mercury to the dwarf planet Pluto, readers learn what makes up the solar system. The book presents facts about each planet, including fun size comparisons such as, “More than one thousand Earths could fit inside Jupiter!” It concludes with a bullet point list of interesting facts, including that gravity keeps the planets and everything else in orbit around the sun. While some terminology may be challenging, the book remains accessible to elementary school children and would be an excellent addition to a classroom library.
VERDICT A great and informative addition to any collection, especially where STEAM is popular.
