PreS–Festive colors and full-bleed digital illustrations bring this lift-the-flap Christmas romp to life. Two excited Black tots explore holiday sights and sounds through “What’s making that sound?” prompts. Each flap hides a silly rhyme: some are clever, such as “a mishap in the gift wrap.” Some are desultory and seemingly placed more for rhyming value than holiday consistency, such as “a bumblebee in the Christmas tree.” Clear depictions of decorations and activities give ample opportunity for young readers to build vocabulary and identification skills. Limited in scope, the overall quality of this title makes it more appropriate as an inexpensive stocking stuffer than a quality library selection.
VERDICT Not an essential Christmas selection.
