Gr 1-2–Witches are self-confident in all the tasks they are traditionally known for performing. But there exists a camp for witches, for those frustrated ones who are under-confident and unhappy with themselves. Young Sid is great at a lot of witchy things, but flying on her broomstick is not something at which she excels. She tells her mom that she won’t be attending Witch Camp this year, because she is just so bad at flying. Her mom encourages her to see that she can do some other amazing things and that practicing her flying will only make her better. Sid decides that her mom is right, and Witch Camp is just what she needs. A good story to help children realize that giving up may not be the best idea, this title is a better fit for SEL shelves than for holiday collections. Its usefulness will extend to esteem issues.
VERDICT A simple, welcome story about a witch who is not perfect, but learns that practice can get her there.
