The ­graphic novel is split nicely between the ­author’s own experiences, from ­childhood to present day, and reflections on past ­decades that trace history’s various ­LGBTQIA+ movements. Whether readers identify as part of the queer community or seek a deeper understanding of its long-standing struggles, this educational and enlightening title is sure to inspire compassion. The artwork is charming and detailed, especially when it comes to the likenesses of important ­trailblazers. It is clear the text was researched extensively, with hundreds of source notes available in the back matter for those interested in learning more. Additional ­recommended reads are also included. The small text sometimes feels excessive, but it is clear this title is a ­passionate labor of love.
