Each spread features one or more poems highlighting an event, from creation to the crucifixion. Included with almost every entry are “read more” references pointing to relevant sections in the Bible for further information. Chau’s illustrations are bold yet whimsical and flowing yet poignant. They meld well with the poems to bring life to these old tales. What elevates this story book is Ling’s ability to encapsulate pertinent events into short, digestible poems. Readers receive an abridged version of the stories of the Bible that, with the art, still adequately convey the enormity and reach of the visions set forth in that literature.
VERDICT This unique and accessible volume deserves a place in religious sections or collections with a demonstrated demand for Biblical stories.
