PreS-Gr 2—An endearing tale that perfectly depicts a child's runaway imagination. When Margo's mother cautions her daughter about being careful with craft glue, swinging, and sticking by her side in the store, Margo's imagination takes each warning to epic levels. Her mind's eye sees her sticking to the walls, flying through the air, and becoming a castaway who must survive in the lonely aisles of the clothing store much like her lost pet hamster. Just when her imagination is about to take her to the brink of a meltdown, her knowing and caring mother snaps her into reality with the surprise addition of an adopted dog to the family. As with Arnaldo's other works, the mixed-media illustrations are truly captivating. Astute readers will pick up on the visual clues that hint at the solution to the story. Likewise, Margo's "lost" hamster appears on every page, a quirky and cute visual gag. This is a fine new title by an author/illustrator who has a real knack for realistic portrayals of a child's psyche.
VERDICT A recommended purchase for any library.
