COPY ISBN
K-Gr 2–A delightful book about whose home is best in the animal kingdom. The full-color illustrations lend a feeling of collage and digital art and show animals and their homes in Asia, Australia, Africa, Oceania, Arctic, and South America, along with more commonly known animals within North America. The table of contents aids in the finding of the spread dedicated to the type of homebuilding technology the animal employs: nest, web, dung, holes. The book starts out with how a hummingbird builds a stretchy nest and continues with an explanation of the different nest constructions, from a swiftlet to a trumpeter swan, stork, and red-headed woodpecker. Each spread contains didactic information from the animal within a bubble as well snarky commentary to aid in the competition of whose home is best. A surprise addition is the inclusion of a dinosaur and one specific dinosaur’s nest, which should be a crowd pleaser.
VERDICT This is a must-buy for those looking to talk about diversity of animals and their homes in different biomes, some more common than others.
