Gr 3-6–After a storm displaces four eaglets, they embark on a journey to find a place that feels true to them, or a home. The new environments reveal creatures who appear to be similar to the eaglets. With each encounter, one of the eaglets makes the decision ­whether to keep going or to stay with the newfound kin. Sunflower’s illustrations use a duotone palette to depict Whetung’s story; this creates a visually textured background and scenery while only using black, white, and orange.
VERDICT In charming and expressive imagery, readers will find a journey that requires courage, reasoning, and newfound maturity. A worthwhile ­purchase.
