PreS-Gr 2–Yo-Yo is a young “can’t-sit-still-ever” kind of bunny. As Grandpa tucks his three charges into bed, he notices that while Roly and Flo settle down immediately, Yo-Yo isn’t ready for sleep due to all her extra energy. Grandpa has the idea to teach the three youngsters a variety of yoga positions and a deep breathing technique that may help Yo-Yo learn how to slow down. The various poses include Bridge, Mountain, Tree, and Child’s Pose. Two bunnies follow Grandpa’s instructions and get into the positions, but Yo-Yo runs off to follow a butterfly and gets lost in the woods. Remembering the yoga poses grandfather taught her, which luckily correspond to features of the forest, the energetic rabbit is able to retrace her steps and complete Grandpa’s lesson in Easy Pose. The cheerful illustrations are colorful and feature myriad spring flowers including dandelions, foxglove, grape hyacinth, and daisies. Instructions for the yoga poses are included at the end of the book as well as during Grandpa’s lesson.
VERDICT Children will be delighted by Yo-Yo’s antics in the forest as well as the yoga/breathing lesson grandpa teaches the bunnies as everyone learns to relax and unwind.
