PreS-Asimple narrative combined with picture-dictionary elements introduces the basics of farm life as a family of five spends a day exploring. Brief dialogue snippets ("So soft!"; "I'm driving!") alternate with simple descriptions ("Playing with the chickens") to frame the narrative. Full-page illustrations and spreads show the family engaged in various farm pursuits, such as picking fruit and riding a pony, while interspersed pages present arrays of spot images with word labels. The drawings are pleasantly clear and uncluttered, and the activities of the rosy-cheeked kids are mildly engaging. There's not enough in either the words or pictures for personalities to emerge, though, and without a real story, the book works best as a simple introduction to farm concepts and vocabulary.—Steven Engelfried, Wilsonville Public Library, OR
