As the weather turns colder, the impulse to lug piles of books home to curl up while the wind blows outside becomes stronger. This season’s Fiction Series Made Simple includes reviews that will help librarians keep up with favorites and find new series that will have young patrons gathering volumes to hibernate with.
Decodable series offer continuity and careful skill-building and often include enough titles in each set for literacy learners to blow through as their excitement for reading builds. There's a wide range of dynamic and diverse authentic texts for readers building fluency and plenty of immersive middle grade series for patrons who need the next book in hand before they even finish the last. There is nothing like losing an entire day to the latest installment of an absorbing YA series, and this supplement has that covered, too.
We hope these reviews, compiled by a team of expert librarians, help educators make informed and unassailable selection decisions, whether it's taking a chance on a new series, or deciding whether to add to a long-standing one. In addition to material that meets the needs of patrons and students, here there are a few things that meet their wants and just may inspire them to hole up in a blanket fort until the story —and the season—comes to an end.
