Ezra Jack Keats Foundation Announces 2025 EJK Award Winners

The 2025 Ezra Jack Keats Writer Award went to Breanna J. McDaniel for Go Forth and Tell: The Life of Augusta Baker, Librarian and Master Storyteller. X. Fang won the Illustrator Award for We Are Definitely Human.

The Ezra Jack Keats Foundation, in partnership with the de Grummond Children’s Literature Collection at the University of Southern Mississippi, today announced the 2025 Ezra Jack Keats Award winners. The annual award is given to early career authors and illustrators for excellence in portraying the multicultural nature of the world.

The Writer Award went to Breanna J. McDaniel for Go Forth and Tell: The Life of Augusta Baker, Librarian and Master StorytellerIllus. by April Harrison.

X. Fang earned the Illustrator Award for We Are Definitely Human.

There were two Writer Honors: Antwan Eady for The Last Stand, illus. by Jarrett & Jerome Pumphrey and Carlos Matias for Emergency Quarters, illus. by Gracey Zhang.

Two Illustrator Honors went to: Kara Kramer for Ernö Rubik and His Magic Cube, written by Kerry Aradhya and Bo Lu for Bao's Doll written by Bo Lu.
