Baby-Toddler—O'Leary enumerates babies' different achievements during their first year, such as crawling, talking, and walking. "You can nod your head for yes, and shake your head for no, now that you are one. And you are very, very good at the game of peek-a-boo." The general tone is one of reassurance and tenderness. Mixed-media illustrations in goldenrod yellow and turquoise show realistic, multiethnic baby faces with a collage arrangement around each page of this simple book. A few pages contain stamped prints of cubes and brushstrokes of paint as well as pen and ink sketches that will appeal more to adults than to young children.
VERDICT A warm and fuzzy read, probably best appreciated by parents commemorating their baby's one-year milestone.
