Gr 1–2—As legend has it, the Wheedle, a creature with a red, blinking nose, lives atop Seattle's Space Needle. The usually grumpy creature meets a lost kitten, Noodle, who is looking for a home. Ultimately the notoriously solitary Wheedle learns to share his life and his Needle with the abandoned pet. A sweet story with an obvious moral wrapped up neatly at the end, the book will appeal to adults familiar with the Wheedle story from more than 20 years ago. Bright illustrations give the characters texture and life, making them both look soft enough to pet. The story itself, though, is slightly long-winded for what is a simple, gentle story of friendship. It's an okay selection for readers in the Pacific Northwest, but may not be of as much interest to others.—Sarah Townsend, Norfolk Public Library, VA
