What Am I? Easter

PreS—This interactive lift-the-flap book presents a variety of child-friendly symbols in a random arrangement. A descriptive clue hinting at the identity of the hidden item appears on the left-hand page ("You can decorate me with colorful squiggles, stripes, and polka dots. The Easter Bunny hides me for you to find."), while a solid-colored flap covers three-quarters of the picture opposite. The cheerful, stylized illustrations, which feature smiling animated characters and a palette of bright pastel hues, provide a solution to each riddle. The questions "What am I? What could I be?" are printed in white text on each of the sturdy flaps. The objects concealed in this sweet "look and see" story include Easter eggs and candy, springtime animals, flowers, and a bonnet. The last spread reprises all of the showcased items, and the text concludes, "I am Easter. That's me!" Although this is a satisfactory addition to the series, for a more festive interactive book, try Jane O'Connor's Fancy Nancy's Elegant Easter (HarperCollins, 2009).—Linda L.
