Gr 9 Up–Like everyone in the small town of Fairport, CA, Eden Stafford knows all about the curse haunting the grounds of the old Fairport Village. In the past two decades, at least three teens have been killed by something or someone on the property. Despite this, Eden grudgingly joins her classmate Henry on a mission to film content for a ghost-hunting documentary the night their senior class decides to throw a party at the resort’s crumbling ruins. But when Henry ends up dead before the night is over, and Eden and several other classmates start being stalked by hooded, cloaked figures, they realize that to save their own lives, they must solve the decades-old mystery of what really happened the night the curse started. This is an action-packed, edge-of-your-seat thriller that will keep teens desperate to find out who or what is killing students in Fairport. While the writing is fairly juvenile, the tightly woven plot and well-paced action will definitely draw readers in. The story ties its loose ends up nicely, including a chilling epilogue from a side character’s point of view. Portions of teen partying, including drinking, and some descriptions of violence and gore might turn away squeamish readers, but otherwise, there are minimal content warnings.
VERDICT A great pick for thriller fans who enjoy slasher horror movie vibes as well.
