Gr 6–10—A concise and well-researched exploration of mild to severe injuries of the human brain. The well-organized, short chapters provide overviews of traumatic brain injuries caused by sports, motor-vehicle accidents, in the military, and more. Each chapter begins with an account of a real incident, which is then discussed and supported by statistics and scientific studies. Small, full-color photos appear throughout. While the book is hardly comprehensive, it is a strong start for research and provides an extensive bibliography and suggested readings, websites, and videos. Middle school libraries especially will be well served by this book due to the open format and accessible language, although the chapters covering sports and motor-vehicle accidents offer insightful information for high school audiences as well.—
