Gr 2–4—Cleo and Evan are on to their next adventure in the magic library beneath their school. The key they received at the end of their last mission unlocks a spy story—Cleo and Evan must rescue Agent Dearth from the Viper and hopefully find some clues about their lost librarian, Mrs. Hilliard, along the way. Nonstop action and doses of humor make this series installment read like a Saturday morning adventure cartoon as the friends use both book smarts and physical prowess to complete their mission and earn the next key. Occasional full-page black-and-white illustrations add to the cartoon feel of this series. Kids who have read the first book in the series will be clamoring for the next installment.
Cleo and Evan suspect their new, not-so-nice librarian is up to no good and find themselves in a magical library beneath their school. In a quest to find their former, beloved librarian, the kids are sucked into magical books--a Victorian mystery and a spy thriller--where they are charged with helping solve crimes. Occasional black-and-white cartoons illustrate the rather predictable action. Review covers the following Key Hunters titles: The Mysterious Moonstone and The Spy's Secret.
