K-Gr 2–Race Car Ro likes to splash in puddles. He’s having fun, until he gets stuck. He calls out for Tow Truck Mo, who ultimately helps Ro get out of trouble. Because, after all, Tow is a tow truck. A tow truck that likes to mambo; it’s this interest that ends up saving Ro. The story’s rhyme is sure to encourage any beginning reader’s confidence: “‘What a big one!’ Ro starts to grin. He revs his engine and dives in.” The cheerful characters are entertaining and the story is short and sweet, while the bright colors in the illustrations are engaging for all.
VERDICT Good for beginning readers who like books about cars and trucks.
