A Gen Z/British take on
Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. Readers hoping for a quick read will instead find a lengthy rom-com that doesn’t really draw readers in until the last 50 pages or so. It’s told in multi-person points of view, tying each character with their superlative, 10 years after the class of 2014 graduated. The typical personalities appear—popular girls, geeks, jocks, the couples—to round out the night that is wrought with self-destructive mishaps. The moral of the story is to simply be true to who you are, even if it’s changed since high school, which is a lovely takeaway; but this title is most likely not going to end up racing off the shelves in high school libraries, if not for the length or the slow start, then certainly for the lack of a teen to have the perspective and ability to reflect on their lives 10 years in the future. There is minimal swearing and tasteful displays of affection, though one scene gets a little spicy.
VERDICT Skip this one to save room for something shorter or more applicable to today’s teens.
