PreS-Gr 3–The latest installment in Wing’s “The Night Before” series focuses on Earth Day, following a community as it finds myriad ways to celebrate and serve the planet. Recycling, planting trees, composting, and cleaning up trash—the more they do, the more they have to enjoy. The list includes observing birds and bugs, and swapping books and clothes instead of buying new ones. By doing these things that take care of the earth, it brings them together. The rhyming couplets are standard fare, but do the job to make this subject easily digestible for the intended age group. Illustrations portray a decent diversity of ages and skin tones.
VERDICT This fits the bill for an earth-themed chapter in this series. Purchase where circulation warrants and paperback formats are appropriate.
