PreS-Gr 2–Lucy and Nera are moon-dwelling Luna sisters who do not get along. Artistic Lucy lives on the bright side of their huge house, while inventor Nera lives on the dark side. One day, the sisters spot the same unusual blossom and both claim ownership. Bickering soon leads to all-out battles with the sisters trying to outdo each other with grand inventions. Each sister uses her talents to come up with increasingly intricate attacks until finally they are left facing each other in a heap. Only egos are injured here. In a pivotal moment, Nera notices that a hungry blossom-eating goat is on its way to their area with eyes on the unique flower, and the sisters will have to work together if they want to keep their blossom. Though sibling banter and needling persist, the story demonstrates how cooperation and respect win the day. Yaccarino’s distinct style brings sharp angles and bright colors to the lunar landscape. The action is punctuated with little creatures that follow the alien girls around. Panels vary from quick action changes to full double-page spreads for big moments.
VERDICT A light science fiction/fantasy story about getting along through cooperation. A good choice where stories about siblings are needed.
