PreS-Gr 1–More of a truncated vocabulary lesson than an actual recap of The Great Gatsby, this board book will please literature enthusiasts, educators, and those who believe in cultural literacy. This is a creative reimagining; each page pairs a quote from the original novel with a vocabulary word and corresponding illustration. For example, the word “Venue” appears alongside a sketched image of a grand white mansion. The accompanying text reads, “It was Gatsby’s mansion…with a tower on one side…and a marble swimming pool, and more than forty acres of lawn and garden.” While much of the content will go over young readers’ heads, fans of the classic will appreciate the opportunity to share this iconic story with little ones.
VERDICT A charming addition to have on hand, though not an essential purchase for all collections.
