Gr 5 Up–This second book of the “Crossover Crisis” trilogy picks up right where Green Arrow’s
Perfect Shot left readers hanging. Team Flash, Team Arrow, and Team Supergirl are forced to deal with the fallout that occurred in the first book, when Flash and Team Arrow closed the dimensional rift looming over Central City. Thousands of Earth-27 speedster refugees are stranded on Earth-1 and Owlman is hiding among the citizens of Central City in a disguise, among other issues the superheroes have to face. The Crisis goes multiversal when Anti-Matter Man hones in on Earth-38. He sends the Flash and Green Arrow across dimensions to join forces with Supergirl and the DEO. Lyga manages to balance four separate storylines masterfully. This allows readers to dig into and be fully invested in each conflict presented. The tension is built by including four problems that leave readers constantly wondering if the superheroes’ mission will succeed. The original DC villains are used here instead of reusing characters from the Arrowverse. Some knowledge of the television shows would help readers feel more connected to the characters. The detail in the character development is appreciated, but, at times, detracts from the action and makes the pacing a bit slow.
VERDICT Purchase where readers are fans of the Arrowverse, and of graphic novels involving DC heroes and villians.
