Gr 9 Up—The main body of this work, in volumes one and two, offers short, informative articles on topics related to three centuries of Native American conflicts. The cross-referenced pieces cover individuals, events, tribes, groups, organizations, places, ideas, movements, treaties, acts, weapons, and technologies relevant to the period, and are followed by an extensive bibliography. Plentiful black-and-white photographs and drawings, along with charts and maps, highlight subjects and add interest. Volume three is a collection of 167 chronologically arranged primary-source documents, each of which is preceded by a brief introduction explaining the document and its significance. Unfortunately, the indexing of the primary-source documents is uneven. For example, salient information about Fort Pitt is near impossible for researchers to locate using the index. Since this won't be an issue in digital format, libraries will be best served by using the electronic version of this otherwise admirable work.—Patricia N. McClune, Conestoga Valley High School, Lancaster, PA
