Gr 7 Up—The story of Tucker Feye and Lah Lia is continued in this sequel (2013) to
The Obsidian Blade (2012, both Candlewick). Lah Lia is from a future more than 500 years away. She has been pampered and protected for one purpose: she will be sacrificed through a diskos that is located at the top of the Cydonian Pyramid. During the ritual, Lah Lia escapes the blade. In this time-travel, sci-fi tale, the story told in Obsidian Blade is presented from Lah Lia's point of view. In addition, the plot navigates between Lah Lia and Tucker's past, future, and different presents. Hautman superbly moves between alternating perspectives. Peter Berkrot's narration is smooth, and he provides unique voices for the different characters, helping listeners follow the multiple viewpoints. Since many portions of this book take listeners back into the time line of the first title in the trilogy, it is advisable to have listened to it before starting the sequel. A great addition to high school and public library collections.—
