Gr 5-8–The book was already a refreshing, coming-of-age reveal: real-life twin music sensations and LGBTQIA+ icons Tegan and Sara updated their own adolescence for contemporary audiences—adding cell phones, social media—presented in cleverly color-coded panels by Eisner-winning illustrator Tillie Walden (Tegan is blue, Sara is reddish, combined purple-ish their reality). Now transformed into a spectacular audiobook, the aural enhancements are many, most memorably the ability to hear the provenance of the twins’ musical career—finding their stepdad’s guitar, awkwardly strumming their first chords, tenaciously learning to play via online tutorials, debuting their first song to friends and family. Beyond listening to the famous twins' own voices—worrying, planning, fighting, singing—a stellar supportive cast ensures an immersive experience; versatile standouts include Santana as excitable Dad, Brackett as reliable stepfather Bruce, Németh-Parker as mean girl Avery.
