Gr 4–7—Fans of Jude Watson's Loot have had to wait two years to find out what's next for this odd assortment of four friends/misfits/thieves. Twins March and Jules, who only just discovered each other in Loot, bungle a diamond heist that's practically written for a movie script, but manage to score one gem. It turns out to be a famous cursed sapphire, part of a trio that adult criminal masterminds are seeking. These likable 12-year-old crooks steal for admirable reasons, often outsmarting dangerous adults pursuing the same stones. Listeners of this plot-driven and exciting tale will recognize Michael Crouch's voices from other notable audiobooks such as The Big Dark, Salt to the Sea, and Lily and Dunkin.
VERDICT Recommend that listeners read/hear Loot before launching into this sequel. For readers who like to live vicariously through kids who don't play by the rules.
