PreS-K–Stanley the hamster and his library assistant Charlie are prepping for a busy day at their library. Rodents rule in this storybook that reads like an episode of Peppa Pig. “It’s going to be another busy day at Stanley’s Library. Charlie tidies the bookshelves, while Stanley puts all sorts of books onto his cart.” Library shelves show a horror section containing books about cats, owls, and snakes. The hamster librarians take the books on the road in their bookmobile, where visitors find a plethora of cheese books and other delights that appeal to them. Guest authors are also invited in to share their tales with interested patrons, who even dress up to coincide with the story. Bold digital illustrations are thoroughly charming. One or two simple sentences in bold, black print sit atop each page, with the majority of the space being occupied by satisfying images of moles, gerbils, and hamsters.
VERDICT The latest installment following Stanley the hamster will certainly not disappoint preschoolers.
