K-Gr 2—Whether in a puddle or pond, a river or ocean, these gorgeous animals make an enormous splash in 46 stunning photographs. High-quality stock photos organized in no particular order depict mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles. And the photos are the draw here, because the text is light—there's just a touch of each animal's biology, behavior, breeding, and diet. Such simple narrative makes for a quick read, as children go from an Asian elephant to the last creature, an Antarctic fur seal. In between, a herd of caribou migrate, following their food source, and a lone female northern cardinal bathes, creating a shower for herself.
VERDICT While the text is not very informative, the stunning photography will tempt browsers.
