PreS-Gr 2–In their sixth “Snowmen” book, the Buehners spin the familiar Christmas carol into a nighttime romp through the Snowmen’s familiar countryside village. But instead of daily presents for someone, the refrain here is of a snowman’s dog chasing things up a tree—one elf, two tubing twins, three merry mice, four scolding squirrels, and so forth—until the tree is loaded with dozens of smiling snow-critters. It’s all in good fun, and with the intention of taking a picture of this unique Christmas tree to send as a photo card to the “The “Readers” at the end of the story. Sound like a stretch? It is, but fans of the series will probably allow for it and enjoy the book nonetheless. The oil and acrylic illustrations are full of color and movement, containing hidden pictures that add to the merriment.
VERDICT Add this to collections where the Buehners’s books are popular.
