PreS-K–Every creature in this pop-up collection has a surprise of color somewhere. For Foxy Fred, his rust body includes a red tail. Shark Shaheen has a sparkly green eyes. Kitty Slink has paws that are pink. There are casual rhymes—“Myrtle” and “purple” lobbed at those reading this aloud, and an arbitrary villain. The shark is benign, and so is the snake, but the spider is told to run away and not come back.

VERDICT Colorful nonsense, but not the necessary kind.
