Selma: La historia de una ­araña estelar

PreS-Gr 2–Selma has countless siblings, cousins, and aunts and uncles, all of whom create perfect spiderwebs to catch the best flies. Selma loves spinning spiderwebs that capture the beauty and wonder of the ­universe. She has created some that resemble raindrops and the night sky. Her ­family often tells her she is doing it wrong, but Selma doesn’t listen. When Selma wants to create a spiderweb as close to the sky as she can, the bug walks to the highest building and climbs up. When she begins to have doubts, encouraging words from an elderly spider push Selma forward, and she makes it to the top. As Selma begins to spin, she doesn’t realize that she’s spun part of her web on a spacecraft, and soon she is traveling out to space. When her family sees a beautiful web incorporating the moon, they know it must be Selma. The lovely Spanish text pulls readers in as they are introduced to Selma, her unique ­personality, and her big goal. The ­whimsical illustrations bring the spider’s miniature world, difficult to see in real life, up close. Kids will giggle as they get a peek at Selma’s POV. ­
