Gr 2-6–A beautifully illustrated, well-written, and chronologically organized anthology that starts with Hypatia and ends with Greta Thunberg. Sinclair writes in a clear, accessible style as she explains what makes particular people in science so important. While she showcases individuals in science, there are interesting moments when collaborations are presented: Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna; Katia and Maurice Kraft; and the Star Mapping Vatican Nuns. The inclusion of collaborative work models for young readers that working together is just as valid and important as working independently. There is a glossary at the back, as well as a foreword from Chevy Humphrey, the president and CEO of the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Csicsko’s illustrations lend a cool, lively vibe, featuring playful colors of people in portraiture.
VERDICT For libraries looking to add to their STEAM collections, this volume is an engaging read.
