PreS—An endearing story about friendship. Sam and Jump, his stuffed rabbit, do everything together. The pair take baths together, climb trees, and take naps. One day, they go to the beach and meet a new friend named Thomas. Sam and Thomas get so involved in playing that when it is time to leave, Sam leaves Jump at the beach. It isn't until Sam gets home that he realizes Jump is nowhere to be found. The next day, Sam returns to the beach in search of his plaything and finds Thomas. Thankfully, his new friend has the missing toy. From that day on, the boys and their stuffed animals are inseparable. Minimalistic drawings are done on white space. Spreads with soft, muted colors represent the calm sea. The text is short, simple, and to the point.
VERDICT Young children will enjoy and empathize with Sam and his love for Jump. A great one-on-one read at bedtime.
