K-Gr 2—Rafi and Rosi are coqui frog siblings from Puerto Rico who love to play outside and have fun. They watch over Rafi's pet hermit crab, wait for the annual carnival, and learn together. Children will enjoy seeing how Rafi likes to play tricks on his sister Rosi, such as using his periscope to make her believe he has X-ray eyes. Rosi always finds out about her brother's tricks, and small children will be able to see the love and care Rafi has for his little sister as he goes to great lengths to make her feel special, such as building her her own personal float out of a wagon and items from his craft box. These titles are not only fun, with bright colors and illustrations that match the words perfectly, but they are also educational. Children will learn about hermit crabs and their shells, periscopes and how they work, mangroves and their seeds, and much more. Published for the first time in Spanish, these beginning readers would be great read aloud together or read alone. With three vignettes in each volume, these works will have readers wanting to see what Rafi and Rosi get up to on their next adventures.
VERDICT Highly recommended for all library collections.
