PreS-Gr 1–Home alone on a rainy day, Posy tries to entertain herself by baking cupcakes. The mouse is shocked to see a big furry hand in the window, followed by a knock on the door. A monster with a scary face opens the door without invitation. Posy is terrified and begins to cry until she recognizes the familiar feet of her friend Pip and realizes that it was just a harmless prank. The rabbit asks if she’d like to try on the costume. He apologizes for scaring her and allows Posy to wear it while they go outside to play and have a snack: cupcakes, of course. Scheffler’s illustrations are simple and charming. The characters are full of emotion and expression and will elicit smiles and compassion from listeners. The artwork has bold outlines and bright hues that will appeal to its intended audience. Youngest listeners will be able to relate to Pip and Posy’s escapades and appreciate the theme of friendship and forgiveness.–Diane Antezzo, Ridgefield Library, CT
