K-Gr 2–A licensed early reader based on a YouTube series. Pinkfong and Nini are friends who love to dance. They have lots of other friends who also love to dance, and, throughout this book, they introduce each of them and their style in turn. The illustrations are a simple, bright, two-dimensional direct translation of the series. There is a mismatch between the brand’s target audience and the reading level of this book. Pinkfong is directed toward children between one and five years old, while this book has two to three sentences per page and vocabulary too challenging for those most likely to be drawn to the title. But for children only interested in characters found in other media, such as television, and who have adults to read to them, this might be a good fit.
VERDICT Purchase for collections where shared early reading titles of television licensed material and Pinkfong, in particular, are in demand.
