Piet journeys through his environment looking for the perfect way to cool off. With each animal he meets, zoological factoids inform readers of the many ways that animals have evolved to deal with the heat. A wide variety of animals, from insects to larger mammals, all contribute to Piet’s quest, but in the end it is the shady forest of beech trees itself that provides the relief for this squirrel hero. Digitally created illustrations brim with life and humor. Some pages feature interactive prompts for young readers to search for different creatures hiding on the pages.
VERDICT A highly entertaining tale with interesting information on how different creatures cope with hot days, this is recommended for all collections for an engaging blend of science and story.
