Peanut Butter and Jellyfish

PreS-Gr 2—Best friends Peanut Butter (a sea horse) and Jellyfish are constantly heckled by Crabby, an aptly named cranky crab. Even though the two try to ward off Crabby's insults, singing, "Driftwood and sea stones may break our bones, but words will never hurt us," Crabby is quick on his claws, retorting that Jellyfish is an invertebrate and doesn't have bones. When Crabby gets caught in a trap, Peanut Butter and Jellyfish face the moral dilemma of whether or not to help their bully escape. All turns out well in the end, although Crabby is still, well, crabby. His incessant antics continue as the credits roll and will have children giggling uncontrollably. Extra features on the disc include an interview with author and illustrator Jarrett J. Krosoczka in which he explains the animation process used to adapt his picture book (Knopf, 2014). The true gem of this DVD is the inside of the cover, which features Common Core connections, student learning outcomes, and before-and-after viewing activities.
