Never, Ever, Ever Ask a Pirate to a Party

Nosy Crow. Aug. 2024. Tr $ 17.99. ISBN 9798887770758. 32p.
PreS-Gr 2–A girl is planning a big party, when suddenly, there’s a knock at the door. It’s a pirate! Then a dragon, a unicorn, and even aliens. Every guest brings a new brand of mayhem until it’s so bad, she asks them to leave. But the main character is bored and so they all come back, apparently apologizing for their bad behavior. That’s when a dinosaur turns up. Brightly colored, highly detailed pictures offer readers a lot to look over, but those requiring a more developed plot will be left wanting. The story is silly, with visual jokes about the dragon, who is not housebroken.
VERDICT Collections needing “silly” can file this one on the shelves, but it’s an additional purchase.
