PreS-K–The wind blows a map onto Nat the Cat’s head. At first Nat is not excited about this, but when he discovers the map leads to a treasure, he’s thrilled. Naturally, he does not want to share the treasure with Pat the Rat…and he does have to find it first. The treasure turns out to be something that surprises Nat the Cat. But Pat the Rat ends up getting the last laugh. With the narrator making sure to ask appropriate guiding questions, the story moves along quickly, providing beginning readers with an amusing tale that has a surprisingly sweet ending. After all, even grumpy Nat the Cat can use a friend. Simple illustrations show Nat the Cat in a static position on each page, with expressions and surroundings shifting to reflect the humorous, dialogue-driven narrative.
VERDICT A clever addition for most beginning reader collections.
