K-Gr 2—Tackling a couple dozen species of sharks, this title is sure to attract readers. The eye-catching cover, featuring a shark with glimmering eyes and menacing teeth, is particularly enticing. The text is large and clear and balanced with real-life shark photographs, many of which are frighteningly realistic. The book divides the subject into groups: "Gentle Giants," "Coast and Coral," "Fast," "Spots and Stripes," and "Strange." There's a spread devoted to each shark, and facts offered include standbys such as size, diet, and habitat. Many pages have images of the shark's teeth in a ready-to-bite position. Considering the appeal of the subject, the book will easily draw browsers.

Close-up, captioned photos highlight key physical features. Information on sharks' shared characteristics is interspersed haphazardly throughout, primarily contextualizing a specific shark's attributes.
