K-Gr 3—Based on a young child's misunderstanding and mispronunciation of the word "autistic," this book takes readers through several characteristics of the disorder in a somewhat appealing way. But, the tendency to stereotype is ever present. Not all children with autism are artistic, just as not all picky eaters are on the autism spectrum. This is the portrayal of one child. Many of his characteristics are shared with others, but not all children with the disorder have his particular character traits. The artwork is done by a young child with autism, and the line drawings with simple crayon shadings are appealing to all ages. They have the added benefit of conveying the idea that people with autism have many talents. While this title could be used to help youngsters have a more positive view of people who are on the autism spectrum, additional information is needed to present an accurate picture.—Wendy Smith-D'Arezzo, Loyola College, Baltimore, MD
