K-Gr 3–If parents and caretakers need to see their rants in one place, positioned in a relentlessly positive, lightly rhyming series of verses, this is the title for them. “Love you more than a million very early mornings. / Love you more than one…two…three more five-minute warnings. / Love you more than a million blueberries on the floor.” Then “Love you more than 365 lunch box notes. / Love you more than a truly astounding number of fevers and sore throats.” Families are shown in every combination, with skin colors that range from very pale to warm brown tones, and the scenes of schools, breakfasts, and doctors’ offices make this relatable to children as well as their parents. The question of whether parents love their spawn comes from a child’s nightmare, which results in this lengthy, singsong response. Farris, creator of the “Weekend Mom” comics, knows her material and provides charming cartoon vignettes for each stanza.
VERDICT This book is a suitable gift for Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day but is long-winded and lightweight for library collections.
