Gr 1-2–Dreyer and Katz are back with another “Misty the Cloud” story; this time, Misty is learning with readers about spring. Clare and her mom are cleaning their home to prepare for warmer weather. Cloud Misty and her friends are also “cleaning” by raining to fill the lakes and help the plants grow. While Clare watches the plants, Misty learns that sunbeams also assist flowers to bloom, and together they make the world blossom. Large text sentences accompany expressive art that corresponds to what is happening in the story. Illustrations by Butcher are colorful, with soft whimsical lines that match Misty and Clare’s spring cleaning tale. While clouds like Misty may not exist in real life, this story is a good introduction for young readers about how the seasons change.
VERDICT A cute introductory read about spring. Pair with Dori Chaconas’s Cork and Fuzz: Spring Cleaning and Jean Reagan’s “How To” series.
