PreS-Gr 2—The Mega Heroes of MegaCityVille use their unique abilities to thwart the ill intent of Mosquito Man. Mosquito Man, quite aptly, thirsts for blood. These series titles have similar themes. Mega Bunny loves to eat, is disorganized, and can jump very high and far. Mega Pig is quite fastidious and is a black belt in karate. No matter the hero, each one battles the very tiny yet resilient Mosquito Man and wins. It hardly seems like a fair fight. Nonetheless, the story lines are full of lighthearted humor, which makes for a fun read-aloud experience. The illustrations, created by French artist Barroux, are a splash of color against a stark white background in a simple ink and watercolor style.
VERDICT An uncommon approach to superhero storytelling.
