Gr 4 Up–Staller, founder of “Happy Kids Kitchen” blog and author of Little Helpers Toddler Cookbook, has written a kid-friendly cookbook, starting with an in-depth introduction for kids and their adults with a focus on safety. The recipes are categorized as easy-peasy, totally doable, and challenge accepted, and each opens with a you-can-do-it encouraging note. To further the positive tone, recipes begin with Get Ready! Get Set! and Go! labels. The entries cover snacks, breakfast, box lunches, dinners, and desserts. Note that several recipes make use of an air fryer. Staller is consistent in her use of whole wheat ingredients in her recipes. Other ingredient lists include maple syrup or honey rather than sugar. Most of the recipes are from scratch, and only a few call for purchased pizza dough or biscuits. Changes to make recipes vegetarian are noted. An allergy-friendly index lists which recipes are gluten, dairy, egg or nut free.
VERDICT With clear instructions, mouthwatering photography, and healthy ingredients, this title is a great addition to any library collection.
