PreS-Gr 3—Isabella, the purple-haired girl with the big imagination, is ready for a day of adventuring. When Daddy asks where his favorite little girl is, she replies, "I am not a little girl." Her identity shifts throughout the afternoon, from an archaeologist exploring the Egyptian pyramids to an artist painting a Parisian cityscape. She also becomes a warrior constructing China's Great Wall, an astronomer climbing Mayan temples, the queen of England inspecting Big Ben, and Lady Liberty defending the world's freedom. As evening approaches, she returns to the most wonderful place in the world, her home, ready to dream of tomorrow's adventures. Mike Litwin's colorful mixed-media illustrations are a perfect match for Isabella's vivacious personality. Cris Dukehart's cheery narration is complemented by the sounds of birds twittering, crickets chirping, and clocks chiming. A detailed bonus segment provides more history and information about each of the landmarks Isabella mentions.
VERDICT This production is a nice introduction to some of the world's most distinctive landmarks and will complement geography units for the youngest audiences.
